Natalia and Andrei grew up in Moscow, Russia. They started skating at age 7. In 1977 they joined their forces and started ice dancing coached by Tatiana Tarasova.

Natalia Bestemianova and Andrei Bukin are the 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988 European Champions and the 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988 World Champions. They won two Olympic medals - the Silver medal at the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, and the Gold medal at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary.
